Bylaws & Chapter Guidance
The Iota Delta Alumni Chapter is governed based on the following bylaws which are ammended, voted upon, and terminated each fall at the annual Homecoming celebration meeting at James Madison University. Absentee votes are allowed but must conform to the rules outlined in the section below labeled "Absentee Voting".

Section Description Status / Ratified
Membership General Up for ratification (Fall 05)
All graduates of the Iota Delta Chapter of Sigma Nu (188) at JMU are eligible and welcomed as members of the Iota Delta Alumni Chapter. However, all members must be in Good Standing (outlined below) with the Active Chapter, prior to being allowed to attend any Alumni Chapter related events (Golf Tourneys, Happy Hours, etc).
Good Standing Up for ratification (Fall 05)
Being in Good Standing with the Active Chapter means that there are no back dues or debts owed to the chapter at time of graduation. If back debt is owed, every effort should be made to repay that debt in a timely manner. If effort is apparent and an expeditious payment plan is agreed upon between the Alumnus and Active Chapter Treasurer, provisional membership in the Alumni Chapter will be granted until such time as the debt is paid. Once debt is closed full membership will be granted. If the alumnus defaults on his debt, no membership rights in the alumni chapter will be conveyed and the debt will be submitted to Omega Financial which will act as impartial debt collector on behalf of the Alumni Chapter.
Dues Up for ratification (Fall 05)
This issue is up for debate, however the alumni chapter charges no dues at this time but instead relies on the donations of its members in order to sustain operations.
Voting General Up for ratification (Fall 05)
Voting for all standard matters will take place each Fall at the Annual JMU Homecoming celebration. At 12 Noon on the Saturday of this weekend, there will be a short meeting held at the Active Chapter House (Walnut Lane) in Harrisonburg, VA. The meeting will be governed according to the regulations set forth in the MEETINGS section below.
Votes Needed To Pass Up for ratification (Fall 05)
There will need to be a simple majority of the number of votes received on a particular issue in order for that issue to pass. In the unlikely event of a deadlock vote, the active chapter President will serve as the impartial tie breaker.
Absentee Voting Up for ratification (Fall 05)
All issues being voted upon in the Fall will be made readily available in a timely manner to all alumni regardless of their ability to attend the actual Homecoming meeting. The means of delivery are subject to change as financials and technology permit, however all alumni must be allowed at least one month of advance notice regarding pending legislation, and be given full access to vote prior to Homecoming weekend. ALL absentee voting must be concluded by 12 Midnight the Thursday before Homecoming weekend.
